Friday morning started off with my annoying alarm ringing and ringing till I finally decided to crawl out of bed. The plan? Leave my house at 4:30 and hit Oologah Lake about 5:30 just before daylight. We left a little a little after 5:00 (because I am very punctual and not very fast at fixing dinner). Our first jug was in the water about 7:00. Wind was out of the East about 5-6 mph creating a little chop on the water which is good. We had 32 jugs on the water and had a 10+ on one of the jugs after we put them all out.
We ran the jugs after that and pulled 4 fish on that run. The next run we pulled 7 fish off with the biggest being about 13 lbs. The wind switched out of the South which can be very dangerous if the wind picks up. About noon the wind started picking up so we pulled the jugs out. We ended up with a total of 13 fish.
At the present, I am experimenting with different baits, styles of jugs, and circle versus straight hooks. Out of 4 jugs made out of 3" PVC with only 2 circle hooks, we caught 3 fish that day. I am noticing that the jugs which have the best buoyancy hooks the most fish. Last trip we made, I caught 2 fish on 1 jug. Due to the fittings being so costly, I am not making very many of them at once. The next best jug that we use is a swimming noddle with a PVC put on the inside. We cut these at about 16-19" with the PVC about 3" shorter. Overall, we had a fun day and did some exploring at the Wiganon bridge as well as the Big Creek boat ramp. More possibilities are out there for fishing spots.
